TIPS FOR MAKING THE PERFECT SMOOTHIE

1. Smoothies are delicious drinks made of a combination of fruit juices with whole fruit blended in for thickness. They
usually contain a creamy base, such as yogurt, milk or ice cream. Ice or frozen fruits are often added to chill and thicken the drink. They are very filling and protein powders can be added in to make a substitute meal.

2. You should use fresh fruit juices whenever you can - they will maximize the nutritional benefits and flavor. Be careful to read labels on any bottled juices you may use, as they may contain only a small amount of juice and a large quantity of sugar.

3. To get more juice from fruits, make sure they are at room temperature before blending. You can also gently roll fruit
(especially lemons, limes, oranges and grapefruit) back and forth on the counter to help soften the pulp.

4. Save the peels for garnish. A lemon stripper works great for quick garnishing.
5. When bananas get too ripe for eating, save them for future smoothies. Remove the peel and place them in freezer bags until ready to use. Bananas are used in alot of different smoothie recipes, as they add

sweetness and thickness to smoothies.
6. It is usually better to break up ice cubes before putting them into the blender. Unless

you have one of the more powerful
blender models that are designed to easily crush ice, it is wise to do this to save wear and

tear on your machine. Be sure to
read the manufacturer's instructions for your model.
7. If the smoothie seems too thick, you can dilute it by adding additional ice, water or

juice.
8. For a thicker smoothie, increase the quantity of fruit or add more creamy base, such as

yogurt. Also, if you freeze the fruit
ahead of time, it will make a thicker smoothie.
9. Smoothies are great served in frosted glasses or mugs. To frost a glass or mug, dip it in

cold water and place it in the
freezer while it is still wet. Freeze it for at least 30 minutes. You can also dip the rim

of the glass in sugar before freezing, if
desired.
10. You can use frozen fruit cubes to keep drinks cold without diluting them. Cut fruit

(removing seeds first) into cubes, dip
in lemon juice and freeze on a tray. Once frozen, the fruit cubes can be bagged and kept in

the freezer for future use.
11. Decorative ice cubes add a special touch to any smoothie. To make decorative ice cubes,

fill an ice cube tray half full,
freeze, remove tray from freezer, place a piece of fruit or decoration on top of each ice

cube, cover the decoration with water,
and freeze solid.
12. Some smoothies will separate if a creamy base has not been added, so either serve them

immediately or plan to reblend
just before serving. Also, when using sparkling water or a sparkling juice mixture, add it

just before serving so that it does
not lose its carbonation.

 

Mango Berry

Ingredients:
1 Large Mango
6 - 8 Fresh Strawberries
1/2 a Pineapple
Small cup of natural yoghurt

Peel and roughly cut the mango, juice half of the pineapple, and add all the ingredients to the blender. Blend until smooth.

This makes a deliciously sweet and tangy blend with a creamy texture.
