The RAW Facts

The benefits of regularly consuming fresh fruits and vegetables are numerous and compelling. Adopt a juicing lifestyle and your body will thank you with more energy clearer skin and less illness.

One of the key differences between making your own juices and smoothies and buying a pre-packed juice or smoothie from the supermarket is heat treatment. In order to extend the life of the product on the shelf it may contain additives or be pasteurised. Pasteurisation involves heating and then cooling the juice which will significantly reduce the nutrient content. When you make your own juice you know exactly whats in it - after all you put it there, and you know its fresh.
There has been plenty of research into the benefits of consuming raw food and some scientists link the cooking of food to some of the modern diseases so prevalent in our society.

Juicing using live foods (raw foods) provides an abundant supply of food enzymes to nourish our bodies. Using raw fruit and vegetables increases the nutritional value. These food enzymes are thought to aid digestion and help to extract more nutritional content from food. Health benefits are improved concentration levels, stronger immune system and weight loss. Cooked foods not only provide diminished nutritional content, they can also overwork the endocrine glands- the body keeps demanding more food in order to obtain as much nutrients and enzymes as it needs even though the endocrine glands know that enough calories have been consumed- leading to weight problems and poor health.

Fruit and vegetables contain phytochemicals. These are naturally found plant chemicals classified into many different groups, one of them being antioxidants- which have been found to prevent oxidative damage to tissues from free radicals and strongly linked to cancer prevention. Other phyochemicals have important roles in cancer prevention for many reasons; some improve immune function, some have a detoxifying effect and some prevent carcinogens from being formed in the gut.
